The Ontario authorities will permit authorized hashish to be bought in personal shops, a reversal of the earlier Liberal authorities’s choice to give the provincial liquor regulator unique rights over retail gross sales.
Under former premier Kathleen Wynne, the Liquor Control Board of Ontario was to have a monopoly of weed gross sales within the province, with 40 shops to open in 2018, adopted by 80 in 2019 and 150 by 2020.
Sources advised VICE News that Premier Doug Ford’s authorities is planning to overturn that call, permitting for personal retailers to promote weed in Ontario. Industry insiders wrote on social media on Thursday that the Ontario authorities will formally make the announcement on July 31, and that the province will nonetheless oversee the wholesale distribution of the product and on-line gross sales.
